Single Sign On via Online Banner

We use Haiku's Single Sign On feature, so you only have to log once into Perspectives and then click on the Online banner on right. A tab with Haiku logged in will open.

Also be sure pop-ups are not blocked for the online class link.
We recently discovered that under Chrome pop-ups are blocked by default. Chrome makes it easy to unblock by clicking on the notice icon as shown here:

Changing Haiku Class Owner

To change Haiku class owner:

Find class and click on it
Click on the the Change Owner Button

Why change class owner?

Teacher changes
Generic class

When a class is created via Save As the name of the Haiku id that created the class becomes part the link like:

https://perspectives.myhaikuclass.com/john.doe/august2014online
https://perspectives.myhaikuclass.com/admin/lateaugust2014online

If the class is generic, then a generic name like online or shell looks more professional in the class link:

https://perspectives.myhaikuclass.com/shell/august2014online
https://perspectives.myhaikuclass.com/online/lateaugust2014online

Haiku email when?/ when not?

Some have expected Haiku to always send informative emails. Often but not always...

Haiku sends emails when

Password resets

When you Forgot your Password? after entering your email or id and

press Reset Password button an email with further instructions will be sent.

When a teacher resets a student's password from Roster and

Domain admin updates a student's password and
- Email this User the password you've entered is checked

Confirmation of a new email address for a Haiku id

Press link in email to confirm

When a student is invited to a class and send email invitation now is checked

Haiku does not send emails when

For Haiku id or roster set-ups or changes via import or API

The API program may be programmed to send an email, but its not from Haiku

Email just 1 Section

Introductions; Reminders; Questions to all students in your section(s).

A grader can email just the students in their section.

A Credit Professor (POR) can email just the two credit sections (CR-UG; CR-Grad)

This can't be done from a Inbox email, but must be sent via the roster email.

How-to send a Roster email to 1 section

Manage Class (upper right)

Roster (dropdown choice)

Manage Roster (upper right)

Email Roster (dropdown choice)

Email composition screen appears

Mouse click in the To: area

List of possible addressees will appear, including a list of sections like:

Section A - students

Write your email and send your Roster email to your section(s)

Roster Email to just 1 section

Why statistics?

Note: Haiku has updated some of their class statistics to be analytics, so some specifics are outdated, BUT the reasons to use analytics have not changed.

Haiku provides us with helpful statistics about the

(whole class) Class statistics on the usage of

the whole class
on individual students
specific pages accessed

(section) Grade statistics on a specific item (review, PR, etc.)
(section) Questions Statistics on how a specific question was answered.

Class statistics .
under Manage Class button drop-down > Statistics

The four views of class statistics are:

Overview

Defaults to current week, but can be changed to the whole present or past months.
Unique visitors is approximately how many students have logged
Shows which Content have been most viewed

Helps to see if students are on track
Can see what interests the students most

Shows which Users (students) have been most active

All users who logged in this week or for selected month
If it says less then 5-10 seconds, really longer. It was really too long for Haiku timer.

Recent Activity (last 2 weeks)

Details for each login session for each student
IP address of the student

Content (all)
Users (all)

Useful to answer questions like:

How many students were active this week?
Did the student who is behind log into the class?
What did the confused student look at?

Grade statistics (per section)
In the Class Gradebook place mouse over title of the entry. Then click on the statistics symbol.

Shows for the item (review, PR, etc): mean, median, standard deviation, minimum, maximum.

Useful to answer questions like:

How many students have finished this item?
How well did the students understand as a class?

Resetting your Password in Haiku

Don't panic. If you know your id or the email you registered with you can reset your password yourself.
In the process you can verify or learn your Haiku id.
