Haiku's death began when sold

Rather late but...  Official closing of this blog with summary of what happened after Haiku was sold to Power School related to the organization I worked with. Timing of this last post is just after the group I am with updated to the current version of Moodle, which it is working great.

History of the End:
2015/16 Haiku was starting to be mentioned with the big LMSs like Moodle and BlackBoard.

Power School abandoned its previous LMS and bought Haiku in 2016.
[Selling was a good decision for start-up savey founder and what start-up experts do.]
But new features and and maintenance on Haiku/Power School slowed within months.
Not surprising since Haiku was written in Ruby and Power School's other tools were not.
Around 2020 Power School abandoned Haiku to buy and switch to another LMS.

The organization I am with stayed with Power School up to that point, but were more and more frustrated. They then switched to an older existing Moodle set-up rather than the new Power School LMS.

And this summer after a longer (super) planning and development phase updated to the current Moodle.  Working fine and now we have control of updates, but will have the help of the Moodle community to stay current with new LMS features.

I still admire the Haiku founders and team, both development and support, who I worked with through 2015. I moved out support on our side in early 2016.

Before 2015 Haiku was affordable and their team responsive to maintenance and new features. Great start-up. It charged per active user, so cost planning scaled  up or down to the number of students. Power School was not interested in any investment in the tool. = user support got poorer and Power School spent its money buying another LMS = The End.
